Merrimack Valley Vision Zero
To eliminate injury crashes, we need to know where they have happened and where they are likely to happen. To do this we have created a High Injury Network (HIN) map.
The HIN assigns a severity to road segments and intersections based on the following criteria:
- Severity of injuries resulting from crashes
- Crashes involving non-motorists (i.e., people walking and biking)
- Crashes occurring in Regional Environmental Justice Communities (REJ+).
The interactive HIN map below highlights locations with identified safety concerns based on historical crash data from the MassDOT IMPACT portal for 2017-2022.
The map opens showing a heatmap of severe and fatal injuries to show locations with crashes with a severe outcome. As you zoom in, the trends-based high injury network (HIN) becomes visible.
*Please note that the Trends-Based HIN includes road segments and intersections with a severity above average and therefore does not account for all crashes in the region.*
