MVPC embarked on developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) in 1995, when we first realized GIS is a tool that assists planning efforts and increases efficiency across the entire region. Since then, our GIS capabilities have expanded significantly, providing services to each of our 15 cities and towns. We also proudly serve as the Regional GIS Service Center for northeastern Massachusetts.
4 key service areas:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Web-based mapping applications
- Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection
- Information Technology

We’ve earned our GIS stripes
We have extensive experience working with municipal assessing, planning, public works, engineering, and building departments. Through contract-funded projects and local technical assistance, our staff has created a broad network of contacts across the region and successfully completed numerous initiatives.
On an annual basis, MVPC provides and updates the official assessor maps for the majority of our communities in the region. We also serve as the official GIS coordinator for two of our municipalities, and advise our remaining communities on their use of GIS.
Efficiency through proficiency
By working with us, communities are able to develop and maintain GIS capabilities at a significantly reduced cost, made possible through reduced training costs and the use of shared services. As a public, non-profit organization, our rates are very competitive, and with over 25 years of combined staff experience, we have both the equipment and technical expertise to fulfill the GIS needs of the region at a significant savings to our communities.
