To eliminate injury crashes, we need to know where they have happened and where they are likely to happen. To do this we have created the High Injury Network map. This tool highlights locations with identified safety concerns based on historical crash data from the MassDOT IMPACT portal for 2017-2022.

The map shown in the High Injury Network tab contains all of the region’s highest severity intersection and segment locations for injury-crashes. The HIN is created by assigning a severity to road segments and intersections based on:

1. Severity of injuries resulting from crashes
2. Crashes involving non-motorists (i.e., People walking and biking)
3. Crashes occurring in Regional Environmental Justice+ Communities

The Travel Mode & Injury Type map displays crash data from the MassDOT IMPACT portal for all crashes resulting in injury for 2017 through June of 2024. This map excludes crashes occurring on interstate highways and property damage only crashes.
