The Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant program consists of three grants: the National Infrastructure Project Assistance Grants program (Mega), the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highways Projects grants program (INFRA), and the Rural Surface Transporation Grant program (Rural). The two objectives of this grant are “Invest in surface transportation infrastructure projects of national or regional significance and improve/expand infrastructure in rural areas” and “Support projects that are consistent with the Department’s strategic goals: improve safety, economic strength and global competitiveness, equity, and climate and sustainability. Funding is awarded on a competitive basis for a wide array or projects including highways, bridges, railways, etc.
