Unemployment Snapshot: Merrimack Valley June 2021

The Merrimack Valley June unemployment numbers for the Merrimack Valley have been released, and they come with good news. Unemployment rates decreased significantly across every community in the region, reflecting the trend seen statewide. Although these numbers still sit at nearly double the rate pre-pandemic, we have now reached the lowest unemployment levels since their peak in May of 2020.

About this data: The Merrimack Valley June unemployment snapshot contains the state-reported municipal-level data as non-seasonally adjusted. This means that fluctuations in unemployment may be due to changes in seasonal work and may not be a complete picture of the workforce. Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment numbers actually suggest a continued decrease in unemployment throughout Massachusetts since June 2020, as shown in the bold green line on the graph above.
