We are delighted to announce that the 2023 Eagleview (formerly known as Pictometry) aerial imagery of the Merrimack Valley is fully deployed to MIMAP. We will spend the next several weeks deploying the new imagery to our full suite of mobile applications. The 2023 imagery is accessible using the Basemaps tool in MIMAP or Eagleview’s ConnectExplorer application. If you need assistance with your logins, contact the GIS program.
MVPC and the Merrimack Valley communities have worked with Pictometry since 2001 to secure high-resolution aerial imagery of the entire region. Eagleview completed the 2023 aerial photography mission in early to mid-spring. The flights occurred from 4/4 to 5/8/23. This is a momentous year for the Aerial Imagery program because, through the relationship that MVPC has built with Eagleview on behalf of our participating communities, we secured flights every other year instead of every three. The next round of flights is anticipated to occur in the spring of 2025. In addition to the new flight plan, the latest imagery is guaranteed to have 3-inch or better resolution, an improvement over the 2020 flight’s 4-inch resolution. This translates to better on-the-ground visibility and the ability to discern features. Additionally, the imagery will have better integrity while zoomed in.
Aerial imagery is one of the most impactful tools in planning. Continued investment to secure a rich history of imagery for our region presents a vital opportunity to track our changing regional landscape. With new technologies, we will utilize these imagery collections in robust analytic processes like land use analyses, built-outs, and suitability to inform planning practices.
