Recognizing Juneteenth in the Merrimack Valley

See all News

MVPC is committed to ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion which are fundamental pillars in our planning work. Designated as a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth is historically celebrated on June 19th, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States by marking the day in 1865 when federal troops came to Galveston, Texas to ensure all remaining enslaved Black individuals were freed. MVPC will observe Juneteenth on Monday, July 20th, and encourage all to contemplate the importance of Juneteenth in America’s history and how this point in history informs the work that still needs to be done to ensure true equity in the United States.
