The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) is proud to announce it has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive an additional $750,000 in supplemental funding through the EPA’s Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) program to support cleanup in the Merrimack Valley. This award is part of a national investment of over $42 million in supplemental RLF funds distributed to 34 successful grantees across the country.
The newly announced funding will enable MVPC to continue its longstanding efforts to assist communities across the Merrimack Valley with the remediation and redevelopment of underutilized and potentially contaminated sites. The supplemental funds are specifically targeted at organizations, like MVPC, that have fully utilized prior grant allocations and are ready to advance new cleanup projects.
“MVPC is honored to receive this new round of EPA funding, which reflects our more than 20 years of success in advancing Brownfields revitalization across the region,” said MVPC Executive Director Jerrard Whitten. “We are excited to put these dollars to work immediately, helping our communities transform contaminated and underutilized properties into productive assets that support economic growth, environmental health, and local vitality.”
Since its initial involvement in the EPA’s Brownfields Program, MVPC has used federal support to provide communities with critical technical and financial resources, including grants and low-interest loans, to conduct Phase I and II environmental assessments, as well as fund cleanups of hazardous sites. This additional $750,000 will allow MVPC to sustain momentum in cleaning up brownfield properties and preparing them for productive reuse.
This award is part of EPA’s FY 2025 Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) Grant Program, which is providing over $224 million nationwide to promote environmental restoration and economic redevelopment in hundreds of communities.
