MVPC is pleased to announce that our Senior GIS Analyst, Mikayla Minor has completed the requirements to become a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) through the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI).
The GISCI provides the geospatial community with an internationally recognized, complete certification program: the GISP® Certification and Mikayla joins our GIS and IT Program Manager, Steve Lopez as well as over 10,000 other certified professionals since the programs inception.
Certification requires at least four years of professional experience and a wide range of geospatial skills which Mikayla has garnered through close working relationships with our communities. Once the years of experience have been accumulated, GISPs are required to pass a rigorous competency exam to test their abilities and understanding of GIS broadly. This exam lends credence to the knowledge base each GISP has worked diligently to acquire throughout their educational and professional tenure. Lastly, a full portfolio detailing education, experience, and contributions to the GIS profession must be submitted and reviewed to receive certification.
The varying technical needs of our communities provide the perfect opportunity to gain valuable expertise as well as all the requirements for successful GISP certification and we are delighted to support our staff in furthering their professional development. We have and always will continue to position ourselves to meet the future technical challenges of the Merrimack Valley region.
