Newburyport Livable Streets and MVPC are co-hosting a screening for “The Street Project” which is a new documentary that addresses the growing trend of pedestrian and cyclist fatalities on roads in the US. The topic is handled in this film by exploring humanity’s relationship to our streets. The filmmakers use an artistic approach that frames the story of the global fight for better streets as a journey, utilizing a 500mm lens “that is normally reserved for filming wildlife…a single shot glides across rush hour traffic capturing cars, scooters, bikes, and pedestrians – like a wilderness in motion”.
Newburyport Livable Streets is an advocacy group established in 2018 around a shared goal to support multimodal transportation in Newburyport and to educate and advocate for infrastructure and policy related to transportation.
MVPC is delighted to be a co-sponsor of this event as the messaging touches on many components of our current work towards achieving Vision Zero in the Merrimack Valley. As we map high crash corridors and intersections through data analysis, we are grateful to partner with safety advocacy groups like Newburyport Livable Streets to shed light on the vulnerable user experience and encourage safety culture through community activities and local actions.
Please join us for the viewing on Sunday, November 12th at 7pm. There will be a joint discussion moderated by MVPC and Newburyport Livable Streets following the screening. Tickets are on sale at; The Street Project (brownpapertickets.com)
