With a hearty THANK YOU to MassDOT, MVPC is pleased to toot the celebration horn for the recent completion of new pedestrian and transit improvements on River Road in Haverhill just east of the I-495 interchange.

The project started with a Road Safety Audit — conducted by MVPC with participation from MassDOT, MVRTA, and other stakeholders – where safety concerns were identified and improvement ideas generated. The result is a bus pull-out, bus shelter with night lighting, and a prominent crossing equipped with flashing signs and a refuge island.  This busy location is close to low-income housing, shopping, and jobs, but previously had no sidewalks or crosswalks.
