MVPC is excited to release the latest addition to our blog series that acknowledges commissioners and staff whose legacy has left lasting impressions on the Merrimack Valley. In honor of Veteran’s Day, MVPC recognizes our commissioners and staff, former and present who have served our country. Join us in expressing our deepest gratitude to the following veterans.
Robert Snow, MVPC Rowley Commissioner, and Chairman
Bob served with the United States Marine Corps, Lance Corporal.
Larry Murphy, MVPC Alternate Commissioner
Larry served with the United States Navy, Petty Officer Second Class from 1968-1972.
Robert LaPlante, MVPC Amesbury Commissioner
Robert served with the United States Navy.
John Cashell, MVPC Georgetown Commissioner
John served with the United States Army in the Fourth Infantry Division from 1975-1978.
Lou Masiello, MVPC Salisbury Commissioner
Lou served with the United States Air Force Reserve, Staff Sargent from 1961-1965. He was honored with a medal for Outstanding Civilian Service to the Department of the United States Airforce in 2002.
Jim Simmons, former MVPC News Correspondent
Jim served with the United States Army, Paratrooper, 11th Airborne Division Pacific Ocean Theater from 1945-1946.
Luther McIlwain, former Methuen MVPC Commissioner, and Chairman
Luther served with the Tuskegee Airmen in the United States Army Air Corps (precursor to the U.S Air Force), 477th Bomb Group as an Aviator and Captain. Luther and the remaining airmen were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for their service by President Bush in March 2007.
