Tufts University Urban and Environmental Program selected MVPC as the recipient of research assistance for various Climate Change and Rising Seas projects conducted in the Great Marsh. A team of five graduate students will spend their winter and spring semester researching and interviewing scientists throughout the northeast to gather information on newly developed and novel techniques aimed at restoring and improving the resiliency of the high marsh.
The students will be investigating potential practices such as runneling, thin-layer placement of sediment, ditch remediation, ditch plug removal, and marsh edge sloping, among others, to be deployed in the Great Marsh. The goal is to determine where these practices are being done, for what type of remediation, and the effectiveness of the approach. Additionally, they hope to garner information on the permitting process and costs associated with these types of projects.
