Web-Based Mapping

Mapping the future of GIS

Custom web-based mapping application for easy information access

When it comes to technology, MVPC is truly visionary. And part of being a visionary is keeping an eye to the future—identifying needs, then designing solutions to meet those needs. When it comes to technology, we felt there was a need for easier, more efficient access to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), so we designed and implemented a regional web-based GIS application called MIMAP (Municipal Information Mapping Access Program).

MIMAP is an internet-based GIS service that enables the user to access the wealth of GIS data archived at MVPC and through the state’s GIS office. Through this system, specific information is quickly queried and located, such as: addresses, assessing records, building permit history, Board of Health records and orders of condition from conservation commissions. Once MIMAP became operational, GIS staff conducted a series of outreach and training sessions among our communities—the MIMAP program has been extremely successful with ten of our 15 communities enrolling in the annual program.  For additional information view the tutorial or click the image below to see MIMAP in action.

Google Maps Integration

With the advancement in GIS technologies and the use of application program interfaces (APIs), MVPC is now able to integrate GIS data with a variety of after market commercial products. Using Esri’s ArcGIS Server Javascript API’s and Google Maps API, we have created a web-based Transportation Viewer. This web application overlays traffic count locations and crash data on standard Google Base Maps, providing quick and easy access to sophisticated GIS data.

MVPC is the regional pioneer for GIS (Geographic Information System) technology. Employing web-based mapping systems, oblique aerial photography, GPS and GIS technology, we’re able to map out the entire region—literally—from a variety of perspectives.
