The Information Technology Age
We all use Information Technology in one form or another throughout the day. We’re surrounded by evolving technology—iPad’s, computers and laptops, GPS devices—but what, exactly, is Information Technology (IT)? Information Technology is the acquisition, processing, storage and dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a microelectronics-based combination of computing and telecommunications.
IT covers a lot of ground, areas that include (but are not limited to): computer software and hardware, programming languages and data constructs. Basically anything that renders data, information or perceived knowledge in any visual format and is distributed by any multimedia mechanism, is considered part of the domain space known as Information Technology.
With our demonstrated IT leadership, our communities are able to strategically leverage their resources more efficiently (people, finances, programs) by utilizing our regionalized IT resources, and following guidance from our knowledgeable staff.
Pictometry
MVPC leads the country in acquiring and utiliizing oblique aerial imagery—we’re proud to be the first regional agency to acquire Pictometry imagery for use within the entire region. This imagery provides a unique, oblique-angle view from all four points of the compass. Many of our municipalities find Pictometry images and software an invaluable tool in their daily functions. From planning to public works, the ability to visualize and analyze any location, using unique views and angles, from the computer desktop is an excellent resource.

Software Evaluation
Our technology is your solution. By working with MVPC staff, communities are able to determine the most cost-effective solutions to address common problems. Whether evaluating permit tracking software, establishing asset management programs or providing basic software recommendations, our technological experience makes for more efficient decision making at the community level.
Training
We’ll even help you become more computer savvy. MVPC provides training in ESRIs ArcGIS software, Pictometry Electronic Field Study and MIMAP. Training sessions are held based on local demand and can be scheduled by contacting GIS Program staff.
