Municipal Information Mapping Access Program

MVPC believes there is a need for easier, more efficient access to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), so in response, we have designed and implemented a regional web-based GIS application called MIMAP (Municipal Information Mapping Access Program). MIMAP is an internet-based GIS service that enables the user to access the wealth of GIS data archived at MVPC and through the state’s GIS office. Through this system, specific information is quickly queried and located, such as: addresses, assessing records, building permit history, Board of Health records and orders of condition from conservation commissions. MIMAP has been extremely popular with 13 of our 15 communities enrolling in the annual program.

Below are examples of popular data sets and tabs that our communities make use of.  Connecting parcel data to Zoning, Planning, Conservation, and Building information makes municipal government work more efficient. Now, with one-click, all of a property’s information is easily accessible.

Property Record Cards

Attach assessor property record cards to each property parcel. The advantage is viewing all of the necessary information such as assessments, record of ownership, evaluations and appraisals all in one location in a familiar format.

Building Images

Having building images at hand in MIMAP can assist in identifying a property quickly. These images provide invaluable information for every municipal department. In this case, a picture truly is worth a thousand words!

Tree Inventory

The City of Newburyport collects the location of all city-owned trees and it is accessible as data layer on MIMAP. The trees can be identified by species, height and many other attributes to assist the city in maintaining them. Pictures of all the trees are also available.

Sewer/ Water Ties

Sewer and Water Ties can be linked to each property parcel. Having these records in digital format and easily accessible is a great advantage – especially when utilizing MIMAP mobile out in the field.
