Today, following decades of smart planning and strong community involvement, the city is thriving, with a solid local economy centered around tourism, high-end retail, and healthcare. The city features a densely settled downtown and a large industrial park, offering prospective businesses a wide-range of attractive location options to meet their particular needs.
As is the case with all Merrimack Valley communities, the City of Newburyport offers plenty of beautiful landscapes and recreational opportunities. Maudslay State Park is a 480-acre gem along the banks of the Merrimack River that features 19th century gardens and plantings, rolling meadows, towering pines, and one of the largest naturally-occurring stands of mountain laurel in Massachusetts. The park is a great place for walking, biking, horseback riding, and picnicking. A seasonal outdoor theater and performance center are on the grounds as well.
