<p align="center"> Regional Recreational Resource Envisioned</p>
<p><strong>For Immediate Release</strong></p>
<p><strong>January 4, 2011 &#8211; </strong>(Haverhill and Salem, MA) &#8212; The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) and the Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage) jointly announce the release of the Merrimack River Trail Reconnaissance Planning Report. The reconnaissance level planning report focuses on <em>re-imaging</em> the existing Merrimack River Trail as one of the region’s outstanding recreational assets: a 50-mile long bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting 17 communities along the Merrimack River inMassachusetts. <p>The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, Brown Walker Planners and the City of Newburyport Planning Board are pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate in the Baystate Roads Complete Streets Training Session.  The training will be held at Newburyport’s City Hall on January 17, 2012 from 9 a.m. to noon.</p>
<p>The training will define Complete Streets, communicate the transportation, public health and environmental benefits and discuss implementation strategies.  The <em>2006 MassDOT Highway Project Development and Design Gui</em>de established Massachusetts as a national leader in Complete Streets and will serve as a key design resource.   Complete Streets can benefit all communities, regardless if they are rural, suburban or urban.</p>
<p>Complete streets that incorporate all modes of transportation are important to ensuring that our region provides the best transportation with most options.  The communities in our region have expressed increased interest in improving multi-modal transportation.  We look forward to more discussions in our region on how to design and retrofit our roads to incorporate all modes of transportation, increase livability of our communities and enhance the health and economic vibrancy of our region.</p>
