MVPC continues to support initiatives that foster both innovation and conservation within the Merrimack Valley, allowing municipalities to reduce costs and promote energy efficiency. MVPC also supports a program to help reduce energy use in the residential sector. Through a partnership with Next Step Living, a participating Mass Save provider, MVPC is helping Municipalities to meet their residential energy efficiency goals by providing residents with easy access to Mass Save to help families reduce energy use and save money.

MVPC endorses the utility subsidized residential energy program Mass Save delivered to families by Next Step Living as a ‘turn key’ partnership that can create lasting impact through residential energy reduction within the Merrimack Valley. The partnership between MVPC and Next Step Living will enable municipalities to measure estimated cost savings to the residential sector as well as aggregate carbon reduction annually. Cities and towns can provide their residents access to this no cost program by promoting this URL to its residents www.nextsteplivinginc.com/mvpc, or contact Matthias Bohler at 978 835 1493 to discuss how Next Step Living can work specifically with municipalities and community organizations.”

Press Release

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has awarded the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA) funds allowing us to offer additional local technical assistance to our communities to advance land use policies that follow sustainable development principles and to organize partnerships among municipalities that result in cost savings and efficiencies in local service delivery. Examples of services we can provide include:

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT/LAND USE

• Assistance with adoption of Chapter 43D Priority Development Sites

• Review permitting procedures and implement prompt and reliable permitting
• Identify and help communities adopt “smart growth” tools and techniques
• Conduct corridor studies and analysis, especially for multiple communities
• Regional; land-use analysis and GIS
• Low impact development regulations
• Neighborhood redevelopment/revitalization strategies

MUNICIPAL PARTNERSHIPS
• Identify and examine potential shared services and collaborations
• Facilitate collective purchasing options
• Analyze or develop cost saving measures that benefit more than one municipality

This is a great opportunity for your community and MVPC to work together on land use issues, policy recommendations, and inter-municipal collaboration that can have a positive impact on your community and the region. Please contact Michael Parquette, Comprehensive Planning Manager or Dennis DiZoglio, Executive Director.
